Naturopathic Medicine

What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic medicine’s philosophy is really quite simple: If your body is provided
with the right support and environment to heal, it can usually mend itself. Naturopathic doctors (ND) are able to treat acute and chronic conditions by determining and treating the root cause of diseases and not simply suppressing symptoms. Whether it is a digestive problem, menstrual cramps, anxiety, eczema, infertility, migraines, depression, insomnia, etc, naturopathic medicine can help. It is evidence-based with interventions that are proven to work. Naturopathic medicine also focuses heavily on preventative medicine. Naturopathic doctors believe in integrative and collaborative health care (contrary to popular belief, they are not anti-mainstream medicine!). Naturopathic doctors’ training mirrors that of medical doctors, especially in diagnosis, though the difference lies in their treatments. No pharmaceuticals are prescribed, but instead non-invasive treatments are recommended. Naturopathic doctors create individualized treatment plans for patients that may: encourage lifestyle modification; recommend dietary changes; use physical medicines like acupuncture; troubleshoot health obstacles; use counselling; and include natural medicines such as herbal teas, high-dose nutrients, vitamins, and minerals …to name a few.
